The story
On rue Meynadier, one of Cannes' oldest streets at the foot of the historic Le Suquet quarter, Aux Bons Enfants has been a fixture since 1935. It was founded by Marie Giorsetti, a "mother courage and strong woman" who, with her husband Constant and their six children, gave the restaurant its name. After Constant's passing in the 1960s, Marie ran the kitchen alone until 1967, when her son Romain and his wife Josette took over for half a century.
Today, the third and fourth generations are at the stove. Chef Luc Giorsetti took command in 1999, bringing experience from a stage at the two-Michelin-starred Hôtel Martinez under Christian Willer. He works alongside his son Ugo, a graduate of the Institut Paul Bocuse who returned to the family kitchen in 2022 after a year at the Eden Rock in Saint Barthélemy. Together, they carry forward a cuisine that is "traditional revisited," rooted in the produce of the nearby Marché Forville.
The kitchen's philosophy is straightforward: generous cooking using local, seasonal ingredients from the Forville market's butchers, fishmongers, and cheesemakers. Recipes are concocted daily in a spirit of tradition and conviviality. The restaurant has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition that aligns perfectly with its ethos of good quality, good value cooking. It is, by its own description, a true institution of bistrot cuisine in Cannes.
The dining room is open Tuesday through Saturday for lunch and dinner, closed Sunday, Monday, and Thursday lunch. Note that the restaurant accepts only cash and checks—no credit cards.
