The story
When Didier Chouteau took over L'Affable in 2019, he brought a decade of experience as head chef at L'Amandier de Mougins under Denis Fetisson. The restaurant, originally founded by Jean-Paul Battaglia, has kept its soul while evolving into a place where product and seasonality drive every plate. Chouteau’s cooking is described as sincere and elegant – a style that earned L'Affable a Michelin Recommended distinction.
The menu changes with the seasons, but certain signatures remain. The Grand Marnier soufflé, served with orange butter, is a constant – a light, airy finish that guests return for. Starters might include pan-seared foie gras with Banyuls glaze or a lobster salad with avocado and citrus. Mains range from Mediterranean turbot with seasonal vegetables to a beef fillet with green pepper sauce, and a rack of lamb roasted with thyme.
The lunch menu, priced at 34€, offers a choice of starters, mains, and desserts that change regularly – think tempura courgette flowers, aïoli with steamed vegetables, or a Thai-style pork rib. The dinner menu at 59€ expands into foie gras terrine, spicy lobster with penne, and that famous soufflé. The restaurant also offers a two-course lunch formula at 28€.
Service is described as impeccable from start to finish, and the atmosphere is welcoming without pretence. L'Affable has been called the best value in Cannes – a place where classic French cuisine is executed with care and consistency. Reservations are recommended.
