The story
In the small port of Le Pô, on the edge of the Carnac oyster beds, La Calypso occupies an old fisherman's cottage that has kept its authentic character. Alexandru Carausu and his team run this address, which has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction for its straightforward, quality-driven cooking.
The specialty is fish grilled over a wood fire in the hearth. Depending on the catch from the nearby port of Étel, you might find turbot, sole, red mullet, brill, or monkfish skewers – ten to twelve varieties are offered daily. The lobster and langouste are also grilled in the fireplace, in full view of the diners. Alongside the seafood, there are grilled meats and a selection of homemade desserts.
The setting is simple and direct: a terrace facing the oyster park, a dining room that feels like a real house. The restaurant is labelled "Cuisine de Qualité" by the Collège Culinaire de France and holds the Maître Restaurateur title, but the tone remains unpretentious. This is a place for grilled seafood and wood-fire cooking, anchored in its Breton location.
