The story
On the Gulf of St-Tropez, just steps from the Mediterranean, Le Relais des Maures has been a fixture since 1876. Originally a family pension beside the now-vanished Canadel train station, it became a tourist hotel in the 1960s under Mme Godet. Today, Catherine and Didier Carlier run the property, now in its 22nd season, with a careful renovation that preserves the spirit of the past while adding modern comfort.
The dining room is bright and elegant, with old kitchen utensils, photographs, and engravings on the walls that give the space a gently nostalgic feel. In warm weather, meals move to sun-drenched terraces. The cuisine is sincere, with the flavors of the Mediterranean and a focus on seasonal produce from local small producers. The wine list follows the same philosophy, drawing almost exclusively from the region's diverse appellations, from family domains to classified châteaux.
This commitment to honest, regional cooking has earned the restaurant a place in the Michelin guide, a recognition that matches the relaxed but refined atmosphere the Carliers have cultivated.
