The story
In Pontoise, just a short walk from the train station, L’Or Q’idée is the story of two passions united. Since 2017, Chef Naoëlle d’Hainaut and her husband, sommelier Matthieu d’Hainaut, have run this restaurant as a family affair. Naoëlle’s cooking is personal, drawing on her Algerian and Kabyle heritage and the scents of orange blossom, rose water, and spices that filled her childhood home. Her philosophy is to elevate simple, accessible ingredients, letting seasonality and freshness guide the menu.
The restaurant earned its first Michelin star in 2019, a distinction the chef describes as a dream realised. A Michelin Green Star followed, recognising the kitchen's commitment to sustainable sourcing, local producers, and waste reduction. The team micro-filters its own water and prioritises organic and biodynamic wines.
Matthieu d’Hainaut, who calls himself a “sommelier at the service of winemakers,” curates a cellar of around 900 references. The list balances renowned estates with promising young talents, with a strong focus on Burgundy and terroir-driven bottles.
The main dining room offers a refined setting for lunch and dinner, but the experience extends beyond the formal tables. L’Or Q’idée also includes a separate wine bar and cave, open Wednesday to Saturday. Here, the atmosphere is more relaxed, with tapas created by Chef d’Hainaut, charcuterie and cheese boards, and a signature rice pudding meant for sharing. It’s a convivial space built around the same commitment to quality, with around 400 wine references available by the glass or bottle.
Whether for a full tasting menu or a casual glass of wine, the restaurant’s modern cuisine is rooted in a clear sense of place and a deep respect for the product.
