The story
Since meeting at a bistro in 1994, Marie-Laure and Patrick Mèzière have built Le Bistrot around a shared passion: accessible, authentic gastronomy. Patrick, whose career includes stints in Michelin-starred kitchens and work in pastry and chocolate, brings precision and creativity to the stove. Marie-Laure oversees the dining room with warmth that makes guests feel at home. Thirty years on, their partnership remains the heart of this Chalon-sur-Saône address.
What sets Le Bistrot apart is its kitchen garden. Patrick and his team grow much of the produce they serve, harvesting vegetables at their peak and letting them dictate the menu. This connection to the land shapes a modern cuisine that respects tradition while adding contemporary touches. The lunch menu (33 €) might offer green asparagus with a walnut crumble, or a vanilla-infused burrata with tomatoes. Dinner (55 € or 65 €) could begin with the signature oeuf meurette – a poached egg with mushroom duxelles, truffle, and foie gras – followed by Aveyron veal with a cacao-infused jus and morel cream.
The restaurant’s recognition by the Michelin guide (Recommended, 2026) reflects this careful, personal cooking. The dining room is convivial, with outdoor seating in good weather and a private caveau for events of six to twelve guests. On the historic île Saint-Laurent, Le Bistrot offers a genuine taste of Burgundy’s seasons – one that changes with each harvest and each new idea from the chef.
