The story
Just outside Chambéry, in the small village of Saint-Jean-d'Arvey, Le Saint Jean offers a dining experience rooted in the Savoyard terroir and driven by a passion for modern cuisine. The restaurant has earned a place in the Michelin guide, a recognition that speaks to the precision and care found in every dish.
Chef Romain Bonnier's path to the kitchen began with a classical foundation at Paul Bocuse, followed by time in the great Parisian brigades of Alain Dutournier at Carré des Feuillants and Christian Le Squer at the George V. The pull of the mountains eventually brought him and his wife Anaïs back to Savoie, where he refined his style at the restaurant Atmosphères.
Today, his cooking is modern, generous, and deeply flavourful. “Originality, acidity, and indulgence are the pillars of a meal with us,” says Romain. The menu is built on a simple but powerful idea: respect for the product and a spotlight on the work of local producers. Every ingredient is sourced from the immediate region, a commitment that gives the food a strong sense of place.
Anaïs Bonnier, who runs the front of house, brings her own story to the table. Having worked as a leather craftsman for a French luxury brand, she discovered the world of hospitality when the restaurant opened. She has since developed a genuine passion for wine, curating a list that highlights the Savoyard vineyards alongside treasures from across France. “A smile, a thoughtful gesture, a beautiful bottle to discover,” she says.
Together, Romain and Anaïs have created a warm and welcoming space where the food and the setting reflect the same values: generosity, authenticity, and a deep connection to the land. Le Saint Jean is a place to experience modern cuisine as it should be—honest, local, and full of heart.
