The story
Le Bistrot du Quai is the more relaxed sibling of Chef Frédéric Doucet’s acclaimed Maison Doucet in Charolles. While the chef's gastronomic restaurant has earned a Michelin star (and a second star in 2026), this bistro offers a direct, everyday expression of the same philosophy: celebrating the best of Burgundian cuisine with warmth and generosity.
The chef’s story is rooted in this very building, the family home and restaurant where he grew up, surrounded by the aromas of his father’s cooking and his mother’s art of hospitality. After training with legendary chefs Pierre Orsi, Paul Bocuse, and the Troisgros family, Doucet returned to Charolles. In 2007, he took over the family business, driven by a deep love for his terroir. "I was born here," he says, "in the heart of the Charollais terroir, which has so much to offer."
At Le Bistrot du Quai, that passion takes a more casual form. The menu is a tribute to the region’s bounty, drawing on ingredients sourced from within a 100-kilometre radius. Think of the famous Charolais beef, river fish, garden vegetables, and local specialties like escargots and Dijon mustard. The chef describes his approach as eco-responsible and gourmand, a commitment to showcasing the exceptional producers and artisans of Burgundy.
The atmosphere is one of genuine conviviality. It’s a place where you can enjoy a well-made meal without ceremony, surrounded by the same dedication to quality that defines the main restaurant. The bistro reflects the chef’s belief in "the strength, generosity, and richness of this region," offering a taste of the Charollais that is both authentic and approachable.
Whether you stop in for lunch or dinner, Le Bistrot du Quai provides a true taste of Burgundy, guided by a chef whose roots run deep in this land.
