The story
Perched above the Loire Valley in Saint-Patrice, Château de Rochecotte is a four-star hotel and gastronomic restaurant that marries centuries of history with refined hospitality. The restaurant, recognised as Michelin Recommended, offers a cuisine described by the estate as “délicate et authentique” – a balance of Classic Cuisine and Modern Cuisine that draws on the bounty of Touraine.
The dining room looks out over French gardens and the valley beyond, setting a quietly elegant stage for lunch or dinner. The kitchen works with seasonal produce, presenting dishes that are both precise and generous. The menu changes regularly, and a set lunch option is available. The restaurant also serves breakfast, and the bar and lounge provide space for a more casual moment.
The château itself tells a story that stretches back to the Hundred Years’ War. In 1828, the Duchesse Dorothée de Dino bought the property and transformed it into an Italianate villa, complete with colonnades and parterres. She welcomed figures such as Honoré de Balzac, and her uncle, the Prince de Talleyrand, stayed often. The château passed through the hands of the Castellane family and the Cuban architect Emilio Terry Sanchez before being rescued by the Pasquier family in 1984. Today, three generations of the family maintain the estate, preserving its soul while offering modern comfort.
The Michelin Recommended distinction underscores the restaurant’s commitment to quality. It places Château de Rochecotte among the noteworthy tables of the Loire Valley, where the region’s wines – from the nearby Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil vineyards – complement the classic and modern plates. Whether you come for a meal or stay in one of the 37 rooms and suites, the château offers a genuine taste of French château life.
