The story
Au Vieux Porche occupies a 1707 wine estate in the heart of Eguisheim, one of Alsace’s most picturesque villages. The building has been fully renovated, its old stone walls and timber frames now housing a dining room that feels both rooted and refined. Here, Maître Restaurateur Eddy Fischer leads a kitchen that respects the region’s traditions while letting the seasons speak.
The menu changes regularly, guided by market arrivals and the rhythm of the Alsatian calendar. Diners can choose from several formulas: Le Tradition (three courses), Le Gourmet (four courses), or Le Vieux Porche (five courses). Each follows the categories “Pour commencer,” “Mers & Eaux douces” (seas and fresh waters), “Ciel & Terre” (sky and earth), cheeses, and desserts. A children’s “Découverte gustative” menu is also available for those under twelve.
The cooking is grounded in fresh, seasonal produce and “fait maison” preparation – a commitment certified by the Maître Restaurateur label. The kitchen works with a small team (three cooks plus a dishwasher) in a fully renovated, functional space, allowing for the kind of precision and attention that has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended distinction.
The restaurant describes itself as “un endroit de caractère” – a place of character – where charm and authentic cuisine meet. The dining room is warm and welcoming, with an outdoor terrace for fair-weather meals. The service is professional, guided by a team that aims to satisfy every wish. Au Vieux Porche is also equipped for private parties and banquets, with a main room that can host groups up to fifty.
For those who want to extend their stay, the restaurant rents a chalet in Soultzeren, nestled in the Vosges Natural Park, with views over the Munster Valley. But the core experience remains the table: a place to taste Alsatian cuisine that is both honest and polished, in a setting that has centuries of history behind it.
