The story
Perched at over 1000 metres in the heart of a 62-hectare estate of forests and meadows, Le M des Avenières brings a refined dining experience to the Château des Avenières in Cruseilles. The restaurant, simply called "Le M," is the gastronomic heart of the property, offering creative and flavourful modern cuisine that changes with the seasons and draws on local produce.
The château itself has a remarkable history. Built between 1907 and the 1920s by two women, American heiress Mary Wallace Schillito and her friend Marcelle Sénard, the estate was designed as a haven of beauty and culture. Today, it is run by the Odin family, who have owned the property since 1994 and maintain the warm, family atmosphere that defines the stay.
The kitchen’s philosophy is rooted in the land. Menus evolve weekly, described as a "gourmet experience" where the chef reveals his inspirations of the moment, blending creativity, seasonality, and elegance. A special foie gras menu, for example, celebrates that classic ingredient with finesse, playing with textures and sweet-and-savoury contrasts. This commitment to quality and seasonality has earned Le M des Avenières a place in the Michelin guide, a recognition that speaks to the consistent craftsmanship on the plate.
Dining here is a relaxed yet polished affair. The restaurant serves dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and lunch from Friday to Sunday, inviting guests to enjoy the panorama of the Salève region while savouring dishes that feel both inventive and grounded. Whether you are staying in one of the château’s themed rooms or a contemporary suite in the nearby Squirrel House, the table at Le M is the perfect place to experience the estate’s serenity and the best of its modern cuisine.
