The story
In the tiny village of Vesc, set among vineyards, lavender fields and olive groves in the Drôme Provençale, Chez Mon Jules is a restaurant and guesthouse run by Alexandra and Jules Duguet. The cooking here is what the team calls "bistronomie" – a direct, seasonal approach rooted in the region's produce. The restaurant describes its food as "simple, savoury and generous," made from scratch with local and often organic ingredients.
The menu is a four-service tasting format, changing with the seasons. A recent example opened with lacquered cauliflower, tahini yoghurt and lemon, followed by Mediterranean squid cooked over a BBQ in a robust seaweed broth. Main course was a carré of veal from a local producer named Cyprien, served with a complex bone-marrow jus, and dessert a mille-feuille of pears cooked in hay with orange blossom water. The team deliberately keeps the carte short to focus on what is best at the moment.
This commitment to honest, terroir-driven country cooking has earned Chez Mon Jules a place in the Michelin guide, as well as recognition from Gault & Millau, Le Fooding, and Le Bottin Gourmand. The restaurant is also referenced by The Place to Bio, reflecting the emphasis on local, sustainable sourcing. Guests can dine on a shaded terrace in warmer months, and the restaurant is wheelchair accessible.
Beyond the table, Chez Mon Jules offers guest rooms open all year, and the space can be privatised for events. The restaurant reopens for the 2026 season on Saturday 4 April.
