The story
On the grounds of the historic Château de Berne, Le Jardin de Berne is a Michelin one-star restaurant that embodies the essence of modern cuisine rooted in nature. Chef Louis Rameau, who arrived in 2016 and took the helm in 2020, draws daily inspiration from the estate’s three organic potagers. “At Château de Berne, nature reigns supreme,” he says, “and that is one of the most important values in my cooking.” His cuisine is simple, authentic, and built around the day’s harvest – vegetables, fruits, aromatic herbs, and edible flowers, all at their peak.
The restaurant’s name, “The Garden of Berne,” points to its soul. Meals unfold in an elegant dining room or on a terrace overlooking the vineyards and gardens. The tasting menu changes with the seasons, showcasing the diversity of the estate’s produce. Dishes may feature saffron from the Haut-Var or a Piedmont vinegar that brightens a plate, but the focus never strays from letting the ingredients speak. For a more intimate encounter, the “Table du Chef” experience invites guests into the kitchen for an exclusive dinner with Rameau and his team.
Le Jardin de Berne also holds a Michelin Green Star, awarded in 2021 for its commitment to sustainable gastronomy. The restaurant works exclusively with local producers, uses biodegradable materials, and sources nearly all produce from the estate’s own organic gardens. Every plate reflects a deep respect for the land – a philosophy that runs through the entire Château de Berne estate, from its biodynamic vineyards to its bee-friendly certification.
Dining here is not about culinary theatrics. It is about precision, seasonality, and the honest taste of Provence. Whether you come for the signature tasting menu or a private chef’s table, Le Jardin de Berne offers a modern cuisine experience that feels both luxurious and deeply connected to the earth.
