The story
On the heights of Étretat, sheltered from the village bustle, Le Donjon – Domaine Saint-Clair sits within a green park with a view that stretches to the sea and the iconic chalk cliffs. The Anglo-Norman manor, built in 1862, became a hotel in 1978 under the Abodib family, and its five cosy salons – with their fireplaces, feutré ambience, and a patio open to the sky – create an atmosphere of unhurried, family-home warmth.
The restaurant’s gastronomic offering is a modern cuisine described by the house as “technique et inventive,” forged in homage to the produce of Normandy – its fields, orchards, and coastal waters. The Michelin Guide has recognised this approach with a Recommended award, placing Le Donjon among the region’s noteworthy tables. It is the only gastronomic restaurant in Étretat, and its kitchen works with precision and creativity, letting the ingredients speak without unnecessary ornament.
Dinner is served in salons with sea views, where the light changes over the falaise d’Aval as the evening progresses. The menu changes with the seasons, drawing on the terroir of the Côte d’Albâtre. Before or after the meal, the bar Le Masdar invites you to linger over a house cocktail. For a different palette, the property also offers Racines, a Lebanese restaurant, but the heart of the culinary experience here is the modern cuisine that honours the Norman coast in every dish.
