The story
Just fifteen minutes south of Nantes, in the small town of Geneston, Le Pélican has earned a Michelin recommendation for its refined, market-driven cooking. Chef Olivier Guenoun, a Maître Restaurateur since 2012, leads a kitchen that champions local, seasonal produce. Everything is made in-house, from the sourdough bread to the ice creams.
The dining room is housed in a classic stone building, with a calm, unpretentious atmosphere. Guenoun’s style is what he calls “simple, refined, and gourmet” – a Modern Cuisine rooted in the Pays de la Loire’s larder. The menu changes with the seasons, but signatures include scallops flambéed with Armagnac, duck breast from a nearby farm cooked low and slow, and a foie gras torchon with Voatsiperifery pepper.
Le Pélican offers several ways to dine. The weekday lunch menu is a swift, affordable option. For a deeper experience, the carte allows diners to build a meal from a thoughtful selection of starters, fish, meat, cheese, and desserts. The tasting menu, priced at €46, is the chef’s improvisation based on the day’s best arrivals. A dedicated children’s menu, “P’tit Pélican,” introduces younger guests to quality ingredients at a gentle price.
The Michelin guide’s recommendation reflects the consistency and sincerity of Guenoun’s project. The guide notes the restaurant’s “gourmet and refined” cooking, confirming that Le Pélican is a reliable destination for Modern Cuisine in the Loire-Atlantique region.
