The story

Le Zinc: A Natural Wine Bar in the Heart of Grenoble

Origins and Philosophy

Located in Grenoble, Le Zinc operates as a dedicated natural wine bar where vignerons matter more than official appellations. Childhood friends Benoit and Clément opened the space in January 2014 after years managing their previous cellar. They prioritize biodynamic and organic producers across France and abroad. Indigenous grape varieties anchor their approach to local typicity.

The Cellar and Pourings

The room centers around a towering collection that reaches past one thousand labels. Guests pour themselves from nearly two hundred bottles of whisky, rum, and local Chartreuse. The staff highlights pesticide-free selections that move quickly through the inventory. A well-curated wine bar thrives when the cellar reflects genuine regional character rather than commercial trends.

Kitchen and Table Setting

Marble tables and a long wooden bar frame the dining area near the covered market. The kitchen prepares every component behind the counter, including crushed peas with mint, green olive tapenade, and traditional pâté en croûte. Savoyard and Isérois cheeses sit alongside Italian charcuterie on shared platters. Recognition from Le Fooding stems directly from the straightforward presentation of house-made bites and dessert portions like pear-chocolate cake.

For Made-in-Grenoble naturalism, this is where it’s at! Located near the covered market, here at Le Zinc (in other words: Ze Independant Natural Cellar) you’ll find over a thousand fanciful wines and/or wines produced without pesticides, that are pulled from out of the giant wine cellar. Taste them seated around the long bar or at a marble table, while nibbling on beautiful small plates: ultra-spreadable green olive tapenade, hummus, tzatziki and crushed peas with mint; cheeky pâté en croûte ; elegant foie gras; cheeses and charcuterie sourced from Savoie, Isère and Italy; not to mention the panna cotta with raspberry coulis or the pear-chocolate cake for something sweet afterwards. // O.J.
