The story
Entering Grignan, you pass a 1760 stone farmhouse set slightly apart from the historic centre. La Ferme Chapouton, home to Le Bistro Chapouton, has been fully renovated to preserve its original character while adding contemporary comfort. The reward is an exceptional panorama of the Grignan château and Mont Ventoux – a backdrop that defines the dining experience.
The restaurant earned a Michelin Recommended distinction for the 2026 guide, a recognition of its consistent quality and the chef’s commitment to modern cuisine rooted in the Drôme Provençale terroir.
The chef works with fresh, local produce, adjusting the menu to what the market offers. Dishes are traditional in spirit but prepared with a modern touch – a cuisine that lets the ingredients speak. The bistro is open daily for lunch (12h–14h) and dinner (19h30–21h), and also offers a takeaway service.
Two distinct dining spaces set the mood. The veranda seats up to 120, with every table facing the Renaissance château; in warm weather, the room opens fully to the gardens. For colder months, the fireplace dining room wraps guests in a cosy, authentic atmosphere. In summer, the terrace offers an even more direct connection to the sweeping views.
The interior décor blends antique finds and contemporary pieces, curated by owner Jean-Luc Valadeau. The original architecture of each room has been respected, giving the whole property a genuine, unhurried elegance. It is a place where the past and present coexist comfortably, and where a meal feels like a genuine pause in the Provençal landscape.
