The story
Just outside the village of Hambye, the Auberge de l'Abbaye sits in a wooded valley beside the river Sienne, within sight of the 12th-century abbey ruins. This elegant stone house, run by Laetitia and Cyril, offers both a comfortable hotel and a restaurant that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for its good-quality, good-value modern cuisine.
The dining room seats 48, and in fine weather the flowering terrace opens onto a panoramic view of the Norman countryside. The atmosphere is simple and convivial – exactly what you want after a day exploring the nearby Mont Saint-Michel, Granville, or the D-Day beaches, all within an hour's drive.
The restaurant focuses on modern cuisine, built on fresh local ingredients and presented without pretension. While the menu changes with the seasons, the approach stays consistent: honest, flavourful cooking that respects the produce. The Bib Gourmand recognition speaks to the balance of quality and price that makes this a favourite for both locals and travellers.
The bar and lounge, with its wood stove, is a welcoming spot for an aperitif or coffee after the meal – especially on long winter evenings.
With seven renovated rooms (the most recent work completed in 2017), the Auberge is a natural choice for a peaceful overnight stay. The owners created a family room and a salon overlooking a glass-walled wine cellar. Free Wi-Fi, a public parking lot nearby, and a hearty breakfast served in your room or the dining room round out the experience.
Whether you're stopping for lunch, dinner, or a longer visit, the Auberge de l'Abbaye delivers the warmth of a family-run Logis hotel with the culinary confidence of a Bib Gourmand address.
