The story
In the centre of the village of Morbecque, along the main avenue, Au Cœur d'Artichaut occupies the space that once housed the local bakery. The chef and his team have completely transformed the interior, leaving only the original hearth – now a decorative feature – as a nod to the past. A bright veranda opens onto a peaceful park, while the sunny terrace invites guests to enjoy an apéritif or coffee outdoors. The atmosphere is described as “chic & élégante” yet convivial, a place where guests feel at ease.
The kitchen is led by a young, serious and creative team, dedicated to a cuisine that is entirely homemade, from the amuse-bouche to the bread and ice creams. Every dish is built from fresh, seasonal products, sourced with care. The restaurant’s modern cuisine is expressed through several menus: the “Inspiration,” the “Retour de Marché” (market return), the “Tentation,” and a festive menu. Each offers a progression of colourful, refined plates that balance flavour and presentation. The restaurant also now offers a takeaway service, allowing guests to bring the experience home.
Au Cœur d’Artichaut has earned a place among the Michelin Recommended restaurants for 2026 – a testament to the consistency and quality of its cooking. Guests praise the “excellent value for money,” the “inventive cuisine” and the “magnificent plates.” The team’s attention to detail, from the carefully chosen wines to the playful amuse-bouches, turns a meal into a genuine discovery. It is a restaurant rooted in the Flemish land, where the Maison Verhaeghe has become a local institution.
