The story
Restaurant Bonnet has been a fixture in Itxassou since Joseph and Jeanne Bonnet opened their small auberge in 1948. Over the decades, the business has passed through the family, each generation adding its own touch while preserving the original spirit. Today, chef Beñat Bonnet and his partner Sandrine run the restaurant, with Beñat’s parents Jean-Paul and Maika still nearby. The restaurant is the heart of Maison Bonnet, which also includes two hotels and a reception farm.
Beñat Bonnet’s cooking is deeply rooted in the Basque Country. He works with fresh, seasonal ingredients from local producers, creating dishes that are authentic yet inventive. The menu changes regularly, reflecting what is at its best. Whether you choose to sit indoors or on the terrace facing the mountains, you can expect a meal that is both grounded and surprising.
The restaurant’s consistent quality has earned it a Michelin Recommended listing. This award highlights the skill and care that go into every plate, from the sourcing of ingredients to the final presentation. It is a testament to the Bonnet family’s long-standing dedication to good food and warm hospitality.
The dining room blends tradition with modernity, creating a relaxed yet refined atmosphere. In warmer months, the terrace offers a stunning backdrop of the Basque mountains. A second dining room is available for group meals. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, with a break on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
