The story
Since May 2013, Au Bistronome has anchored the center of La Ferté-Bernard with a straightforward philosophy: healthy, seasonal cooking built around the grill. The kitchen works with charcoal, preparing steaks, fish, and classic bistro fare directly in the dining room. The Michelin Guide has recognised the restaurant since 2016, and the 2026 edition continues to recommend it, praising the cooking as “simple et généreux.”
The dining room is bright and high-ceilinged, decorated in a contemporary bistro style. It sets the stage for a menu that balances tradition with modern technique. Among the dishes that have become signatures are the Ravioles de Homard Breton (Breton lobster ravioli) and the Ris de Veau grilled at the fireplace — both mentioned by the restaurant as “incontournables.” The wine list draws from French wine regions, chosen to complement the food.
Au Bistronome also offers a lunch formula and a catering service for events, from weddings at local châteaux to corporate meetings. Private parties can book the entire restaurant. Gift cards are available for those who want to share the experience. The team describes the atmosphere as “feutrée” (muffled, cosy) and bistronomic — warm, attentive, and unhurried.
The cuisine here is a blend of Grill and Modern Cuisine, rooted in the seasons and executed with precision. Whether you stop for a midday meal or an evening dinner, the focus remains on letting quality ingredients speak for themselves.
