The story

Friko in Lanmeur offers a relaxed bistro near the coast

The Chefs and Their Kitchen

Friko brings a relaxed bistro approach to the coastal village of Lanmeur. Former physical education teacher Dylan Simon now leads the kitchen alongside Yohan Le Puil, who manages service and the bar. Le Fooding recently listed the venue as a promising destination, praising how the pair honors their Breton heritage through straightforward cooking. They transformed a renovated family home into a year round guinguette inspired space that welcomes locals and visitors alike.

Standout Dishes

The casual bistro style keeps preparations honest and focused on quality ingredients. Guests often order the cold octopus salad dressed with tomatoes, peppers, and onions, or the tuna steak served alongside a smooth broccoli purée. A creamy brie mousse pairs well with grilled haricots verts and roasted eggplant during warmer months. Even the classic patatas brava arrive with a custom mayonnaise that carries a mild heat.

Room and Atmosphere

Burgundy painted exterior walls frame large windows that let natural light fill the wooden dining room. Regulars gather at sturdy tables while tourists discover the space through its rotating schedule of events. Art exhibitions hang on the walls between scheduled concerts and traditional fest noz gatherings. Outdoor seating extends the experience onto the quiet street during pleasant weather.

With a name like Friko (which means “feast” in Breton), this place has a bright future ahead of it! Running this guinguette -inspired café-bistro is Dylan Simon (a former PE teacher turned chef) and Yohan Le Puil (who now works front of house and behind the bar, after working as a youth center leader). The duo welcomes in regulars and tourists alike year round in a fully-renovated former house decked out with a burgundy facade, big windows and wooden furniture. For us, the night we went, all of the following made its way out to our table to share: an incredibly fresh octopus salad with tomatoes, onions and peppers; lemony fish rillettes sprinkled with sesame seeds and piment d’Espelette; a haricot vert and eggplant salad with a creamy brie mousse; and classic patatas brava with a mildly spicy mayonnaise. At lunch, expect unfussy menus that aim to please: cucumber salad; pork loin and slow-cooked lemony fennel; tuna steak with broccoli purée; and even a vegetarian plate… Plus, expect a lineup of art exhibitions, concerts and fest-noz , of course! // Yanath Kandal
