The story
In the Burgundy countryside near Le Creusot, Chef Laurent Bouthenet runs Le Restaurant du Château from a carefully restored priory. The setting is calm—overlooking a pond, surrounded by marked hiking and cycling trails—and the dining room, expanded with a glass-and-steel extension, feels both airy and intimate.
After 31 years in the kitchen, Bouthenet has been at the helm here for eight years. His cooking is modern cuisine rooted in the region. He works with local, passionate suppliers, choosing fresh, seasonal produce from small-scale producers. The result is a delicate, flavour-driven style described by the restaurant as "savoureuse et raffinée"—savoury and refined. The approach is traditional yet revisited, prioritising lightness and clarity without losing depth of flavour.
Guests can choose from several menus: the seven-course tasting menu at €69, or "La Saveur du Chef" at €40. A children's menu and a more casual three-course lake-side option at €25 are also available. The wine list is equally considered, with over 60 references, mostly Burgundian, chosen to complement the food.
The restaurant's recognition as Michelin Recommended reflects the consistent quality of what happens in the kitchen—a team effort where each plate is built on precision and trust. Bouthenet also offers a catering service for private events, applying the same exacting standards.
Whether for a leisurely lunch or a special dinner, Le Restaurant du Château delivers an honest, elegant expression of modern cuisine in a genuinely peaceful Burgundy setting.
