The story
In December 2019, Julien and Elina opened 16âme on rue des Glaciers in Le Monêtier-les-Bains, at the heart of the Serre Chevalier valley. Behind an unassuming facade lies an intimate dining room with a warm, mountain atmosphere. The restaurant’s name—"16th" in French—hints at a personal story, though the couple lets the plates speak for themselves.
Julien describes his cuisine as “rural, Alpine, but also Mediterranean,” a nod to his Corsican origins. The menu changes constantly, drawing on the surrounding mountains while weaving in sunnier notes from the island. The result is a style that feels both grounded and surprising—a gastronomic take on the region’s traditions, without pretense. 16âme’s cooking earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, a recognition that rewards quality and value.
Because the menu is in permanent renewal, each visit offers something new. The kitchen adapts to dietary needs when advised at booking, though vegan, lactose-free, and gluten-free options are not available. The focus is on the interplay of Alpine and Mediterranean ingredients, prepared with precision and a clear sense of place. The setting is unhurried, the service attentive—a restaurant that feels like a discovery, even for those who know the valley well.
