The story
Perched on the Chemin du Phare in Leucate, Le Grand Cap commands an uninterrupted view of the Mediterranean Sea. The restaurant sits at the edge of a landscape where sandy beaches, limestone cliffs, and garrigue plateaus meet – a contrast that defines both the setting and the cooking.
The kitchen is run by chef Erwan Houssin and pastry chef Paméla Houssin. Both trained in some of the most renowned Michelin-starred kitchens before joining forces. Their partnership is the engine of the restaurant: Erwan builds savoury plates with marked, precise flavours, while Paméla creates desserts that complete the experience with equal ambition. Together, they earned the restaurant its first Michelin star, a recognition that speaks to the coherence of their four-handed work.
Erwan Houssin’s modern cuisine draws directly from the surrounding territory. He has a particular affinity for iodised products and bright acidity, and his cooking is described – in the restaurant’s own words – as revealing "marked flavours, with finesse and generosity." Every ingredient is meant to tell its own story, from the fish of the nearby coast to the herbs and vegetables of the garrigue. The menu changes with the seasons, but the philosophy remains constant: let the product speak, with restraint and precision.
Below the main dining room, the same team runs L’Aphyllanthe, a more relaxed bistrot that also benefits from the sea view. There the promise is the same quality of produce, served in a less formal atmosphere. But the flagship remains Le Grand Cap, where the Michelin-starred tasting menu unfolds in a room designed to keep the focus on the plate and the panorama beyond.
