The story

Félicie: Modern Cuisine with Tableside Theatre in Lille | Michelin Recommended

The name Félicie comes from the Latin Felicitas — happiness. The restaurant calls itself “des bienheureux,” and the spirit is one of generous, inventive cooking that keeps the dining room alive with surprise.

From the moment you sit down, the meal unfolds as a performance. Meat and fish are carved tableside from a cart, cheese is presented and cut from a wheel, and certain dishes are finished under a cloche with smoke or cooked on a hot brick at the table. This is Modern Cuisine that doesn’t hide its technique but puts it on display. The menu changes weekly, driven by market arrivals and the chef’s inspiration, with a vegetable dessert offered every week.

The kitchen draws heavily from the Lille métropole. The cheese trolley features selections from Philippe Olivier, the coffee is roasted to order by Le fou du grain in Wambrechies, and the beer list highlights local breweries. The team even brews their own beer, “Choupix,” in partnership with Brasserie Celestin in Vieux-Lille. Cocktails are built in-house, including “Le Felicie,” a beetroot and genever number that winks at the region.

For wine, the restaurant runs its own cave, La Cave des Bienheureux, with bottles chosen to pair with the menu. The sommelier can suggest original matches for each course, and the bar creates custom cocktails for aperitifs or to accompany the weekly carte.

A recent menu shows the precision: a duo of asparagus with stracciatella and basil oil, gravlax with spinach coulis and citrus, or vitello tonnato with low-temperature veal. Mains might include guinea fowl with aubergine purée and glazed carrots, or an entrecôte with potato pave and béarnaise. Desserts range from a Breton shortbread with lemon cream and saffron meringue to a reworked black forest with cherry gel and kirsch sorbet.

This is the kind of place that earned its Michelin Recommended status by balancing technical skill with genuine warmth. The dining room is air-conditioned, with outdoor seating in season, and the service is attentive without being stiff. Félicie proves that Modern Cuisine can be both theatrical and deeply rooted in its place.
