The story
Solelh – the Occitan word for "sun" – lives up to its name. Situated in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue's antiques quarter, this modern bistro from chef Patrick Fischnaller and Romain Gandolphe (who also run the Michelin-starred Le Vivier) brings a relaxed, convivial energy to the table. Their concept is straightforward: creative, generous modern cuisine built from fresh, local, seasonal produce, cooked with skill and served without pretension.
The Bib Gourmand from the Guide Michelin recognises exactly this kind of good-quality, good-value cooking, and at Solelh it's expressed through a menu that changes with the market. At lunch, a weekday formule is available from 26 €. In the evening, the carte leans towards shareable tapas and dishes finished over a binchotan charcoal grill – a technique that adds a subtle smokiness to seasonal ingredients. There are always vegetarian options, and vegan dishes can be prepared on request.
The setting is as considered as the food. Three distinct spaces let guests choose their mood: a spacious, shaded terrace beside a branch of the Sorgue river; a sleek, design-led dining room with an open kitchen that puts the chefs' work on display; and a heated, ventilated and air-conditioned patio for year-round comfort. The wine list champions organic and natural cuvées from French growers, selected with passion and purpose.
For a taste of bistronomie in the heart of Provence, Solelh is a confident, sunlit address.
