The story
Maison Ricordeau in Loué has been a culinary landmark in Sarthe for over 140 years. Originally a coaching inn, this charming hotel and restaurant once welcomed statesmen like Charles de Gaulle and stars such as Steve McQueen. Under chef Émile Ricordeau, the restaurant held two Michelin stars for more than three decades. Today, chef Didier Chapeau upholds that legacy with the same exacting philosophy, crafting modern cuisine that highlights local products. The restaurant’s consistently high standards have been recognised with a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026.
The gastronomic restaurant presents a refined menu where seasonal ingredients from the region are showcased with subtlety and precision. The dining room and shaded terrace offer an elegant setting for lunch or dinner. For a more relaxed meal, La Table du Coq, the bistrot des volailles, serves dishes centred on poultry and local flavours in a convivial atmosphere. Both kitchens accommodate vegetarian and gluten-free diets, and the service remains attentive and sincere.
The late 19th-century building, surrounded by a bucolic garden, houses thirteen rooms and suites, many overlooking the greenery. Guests can unwind by the heated pool or explore the surrounding countryside, with the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit just 40 minutes away. The Ricordeau’s promise endures: a beautiful plate, a comfortable room, and genuine hospitality.
