The story

Maison Léa, Lyon – A Classic Lyonnaise Bouchon with Michelin Recognition

Un lieu, deux ambiances

Maison Léa is a Lyonnaise restaurant that honours the legacy of Léa Bidaut, a formidable cook who began her career in 1927. In 1943, she bought a small bistrot on Place Antonin Gourju, and despite the nearby bombing of the Pont Bonaparte in 1944, she rebuilt and kept cooking. Her signature dishes—tablier de sapeur, gratin de macaronis, canard au sang, and a slow-roasted gigot d’agneau marinated in mustard, anchovies, herbs and champagne—earned her a Michelin star. Today, the restaurant operates two addresses: Maison Léa on Quai des Célestins, offering a refined “cuisine d’hier et d’aujourd’hui,” and Bouchon Léa on Place Antonin Gourju, a traditional bouchon with a more casual atmosphere.

L’héritage des Mères Lyonnaises

The spirit of the Mères Lyonnaises lives on at Maison Léa. The kitchen follows Léa’s principles: bold flavours, careful technique, and respect for local ingredients. The current menu features the emblematic 7-hour gigot d’agneau (served with a gratin of macaronis), a house-made quenelle de brochet in sauce homardine, and a pâté en croûte of poultry and pork with pistachios. Seasonal entries include asparagus with mousseline and fried onions, or a gaspacho of petit pois with brie and crunchy vegetables. Desserts like the oeuf à la neige aux pralines and the chartreuse parfait with a shooter of green Chartreuse nod to classic Lyonnaise sweets.

Recognized by Michelin

The quality of this Lyonnaise cuisine has been consistently acknowledged. In 2026, Maison Léa was again awarded a Michelin recommendation, a testament to the kitchen’s ability to balance tradition with modern precision. Whether you choose the elegant dining room on the quai or the convivial bouchon on the square, the cooking remains rooted in the city’s rich culinary heritage.

A menu for every occasion

Maison Léa offers lunch menus (Menu du Jour at 26,50€ for three courses) and a more elaborate Menu Fourvière at 54€, featuring langoustine croustillants or foie gras as starters, and the famous gigot or a filet of maigre as mains. A children’s menu (Menu des Gones) ensures younger guests are welcomed. The restaurant also has private salons for events, and a gift voucher option. Open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner.
