The story
In the heart of Lyon, Veronatuti is a trattoria that transports its guests to Italy. The name, an acronym of Venice, Rome, Naples, Turin, and Tivoli, hints at the breadth of its inspiration. Founded in 2016 by Chef Benjamin Bugand-Ydais and Christophe, the restaurant is a celebration of the couple’s shared passion for Italian gastronomy. Christophe, who has Sardinian heritage and roots in Rome and Bologna, brings a deep knowledge of Italian culture and terroir to the front of house, while Chef Benjamin’s four-year tenure at the renowned Tartufo in Lyon honed his skills in Italian cuisine.
The kitchen, led by Chef Benjamin alongside Alexy and Samuel, crafts a menu that changes with the seasons. The cuisine is described as elegant yet generous, focusing on fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from trusted artisans. The menu evolves not only by season but also from lunch to dinner, with a special tradition of hand-filled fresh pasta featured every Saturday, rotating monthly to highlight different Italian regions. Signature dishes include the Frisella Pugliese, a homemade bread from Puglia with confit tomatoes, rocket, and dry ricotta, and the Culurgiones d’Ogliastra, hand-braided ravioli from Sardinia filled with potato, pecorino, and mint. The passion for quality and authenticity has earned the restaurant a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition for good quality, good value cooking.
Beyond the plate, Veronatuti offers a complete Italian experience. The wine list is exclusively Italian, featuring fine, organic, and natural wines, alongside Sardinian beers and classic spritzes. The restaurant also offers catering, takeaway, and can be privatized for events. The team’s warmth and storytelling, guided by Christophe, turn each meal into a genuine cultural escape, making Veronatuti a destination for those seeking the true flavors of Italy in Lyon.
