The story
On the grounds of Château Marquis de Terme, a Grand Cru Classé of 1855, the restaurant [Au] Marquis de Terme opened in July 2021. It is the first restaurant within a Margaux estate, born from the collaboration between the château and Chef Grégory Coutanceau. Michelin recognised it with a Recommended distinction in 2026, confirming the quality of this modern cuisine address.
The setting is direct and generous. The dining room spans two floors, with an open kitchen that lets you watch the cooks at work. Upstairs, a private salon seats ten in a more intimate space. On fine days, the terrace looks straight out over the vines of the Margaux appellation – a rare, immediate connection to the land that produces the wines on your table.
Chef Coutanceau, whose roots are in La Rochelle, describes his cuisine as a meeting point between the maritime terroir of the Atlantic coast and the agricultural and viticultural richness of the Bordeaux region. The result is modern cuisine that feels both grounded and precise: dishes built on simple, high-quality products, prepared with clarity and respect for the ingredient. The menu changes with the seasons and includes a dedicated tasting option.
The wine list is a serious affair. It gives pride of place to the wines of Margaux, with all the 1855 Grand Cru Classé represented across two vintages. It also reaches into white wines from other French wine regions, each chosen to highlight the work of passionate producers. The sommelier is present and knowledgeable, happy to guide you through the pairings.
Throughout the year, the restaurant hosts Dîners Vignerons – winemaker dinners where guests enjoy a multi-course meal paired with wines from great Bordeaux estates and beyond. These evenings are a natural extension of the estate’s identity: wine, gastronomy, and hospitality brought together in one place.
Whether for lunch or dinner, [Au] Marquis de Terme offers a refined yet unpretentious experience. The combination of a historic wine estate, a chef with a clear vision, and a Michelin‑recommended kitchen makes it a destination worth seeking out in Margaux.
