The story
Peron clings to the Corniche in Marseille, suspended above the Mediterranean. From its terrace, the view sweeps across the Frioul islands, the Château d’If, the Estaque hills, and the entrance to the Vieux-Port. Inside, the atmosphere is elegant and relaxed, a setting that has made this restaurant a singular destination since 1885. The Michelin inspectors have marked it as Recommended, recognising the quiet mastery of a kitchen that draws directly from the sea.
The menu is a study in local, refined seafood. Afternoon offerings include a starter-plat or plat-dessert formula, while the evening carte changes with the season. Dishes such as red tuna cooked over embers with a sriracha jus, roasted miso-smoked beetroot cauliflower, and fine purée, or line-caught maigre with Carteau mussels, braised fennel, and clementine beurre blanc, speak to the kitchen’s precision. The bouillabaisse, served in the plate, is a Marseille classic. Desserts are equally considered: a chocolate tartlet with 80% cacao soufflé, Madagascar vanilla ice cream, or a tarte tatin with whipped mascarpone.
Peron’s food is modern, rooted in the Mediterranean, and never fussy. The terrace, drenched in sunlight, makes it a place to linger – a restaurant that has been holding its own on the Corniche for over a century, and shows no sign of slowing.
