The story

Aux 3 Capitaines, Malroy near Metz – Bib Gourmand Restaurant, Lorraine

A warm welcome in Malroy

In the quiet village of Malroy, just outside Metz, Aux 3 Capitaines has been a fixture of regional dining for decades. Since 2024, Anaïs and Benoît Potdevin have been at the helm, bringing new energy while honouring the restaurant’s soul. Benoît, a former Michelin-starred chef at Le K du Domaine de la Klauss, works closely with Frédéric Lorrain, who has been the backbone of the kitchen for over twelve years. Anaïs runs the dining room, ensuring the atmosphere stays simple, warm, and sincere – exactly what the owners call “une table de copains.”

The interior has been refreshed with contemporary elegance, but the spirit remains unchanged: generous, unpretentious, and focused on what matters most. The restaurant’s values – local produce, seasonal cooking, and a balance of tradition with invention – are evident in every plate.

Cooking that earned a Bib Gourmand

In February 2026, Aux 3 Capitaines was awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition that celebrates flavour, conviviality, and value for money. It’s a natural fit for a kitchen that lets ingredients speak for themselves. Chef Lorrain and Benoît Potdevin build their menu around the best from nearby producers, changing it with the seasons.

A signature dish that appears in the restaurant’s own updates is the warm Mirabelle soufflé – light, airy, and intensely flavoured with Lorraine’s famous golden plum. In spring, white asparagus from the Ferme du Chambeyron takes centre stage in a fresh, creative menu. And when winter arrives, a limited-edition “Diamant Noir” menu celebrates black truffle, with the option to add fresh Melanosporum shavings to classics like bouchées à la reine – crisp puff pastry filled with chicken, veal, and mushrooms in a creamy sauce.

A place for real moments

This is not a restaurant for culinary theatre. It’s a place where you come to eat well, whether for a weekday lunch, a family dinner, or a special occasion. The owners have also partnered with local artist Yann Dehais for an in-house exhibition, weaving art into the dining experience without fanfare.

Aux 3 Capitaines is open for lunch and dinner, closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Takeaway is available, and around the holidays, the team prepares festive menus to enjoy at home.
