The story
Le Petit Mézériat serves modern cuisine in a former schoolhouse in the village of Mézériat, between Bourg-en-Bresse and Mâcon. For over a decade, owners Amandine and Marc have run the restaurant, having entirely renovated the old classroom themselves into a bright, welcoming space that still echoes its past. A garden terrace opens in fine weather, and a seasonal Petit bar à vin offers a convivial spot for wine and beer.
The restaurant’s signature is its surprise menus, available in three, four, or five courses – an invitation to trust the chef and explore seasonal flavors. On weekdays, a market menu provides a simpler choice, while the Ain’trépide menu nods to local traditions with dishes such as organic egg from Vonnas, duck carpaccio from the Dombes, tournedos of Bresse chicken in a creamy sauce, and a seasonal Pavlova. The cooking is described as gourmet, refined, and sincere, firmly rooted in modern cuisine.
Le Petit Mézériat holds a Michelin Recommended award, a mark of its consistent quality and thoughtful approach. The kitchen balances respect for local produce with a contemporary touch, making each meal a genuine expression of the region’s bounty. Wine pairings are available to complement the surprise menus.
Amandine and Marc also offer a catering service for private events and weddings, and a gîte (Gite de la Veyle) for overnight stays. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and provides free Wi-Fi.
