The story
La Gloire in Montargis is a story of generations. It began in September 1972 when Mr. and Mrs. Jolly, owners of the "Route Bleue" truck stop, decided to move into fine dining. They bought the Hôtel Restaurant de la Gloire, and the reputation they built quickly took hold.
Jean Claude Martin came to learn his craft there, then left for Paris to work at celebrated houses like Le Doyen, La Marée, and the Café de la Paix. He eventually returned to La Gloire for good, taking over the business in 1980 with his wife Véronique, the Jollys' daughter. Their own daughters, Caroline and Elodie, along with their son-in-law Jérôme, learned alongside them. In 2018, the new generation took the reins, with a clear goal: to continue the adventure while keeping the classics, adding their own touch.
La Gloire is a family restaurant where you feel good. Located about an hour south of Paris by the A6 motorway, it sits a kilometer from the center of Montargis, near the train station. The team welcomes guests in a warm, familiar setting, with all necessary safety and hygiene measures in place.
The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended recognition, a testament to its consistent quality and welcoming atmosphere. This is not a place for flashy trends, but for honest, well-executed French cuisine that honors its roots. The menu changes with the seasons, and a special Saint Valentine's menu is offered on select days in February.
La Gloire is closed Monday evening, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Annual closing is from the evening of Sunday, February 15, reopening Thursday, March 5. A parking lot is available for guests during opening hours. The restaurant is also wheelchair accessible, and the wine list is worth exploring.
