The story
Coppia brings a grounded approach to the modern French bistro scene in Montpellier. Located on a quiet square in the historic L’Écusson district, the space reimagines the traditional menu ouvrier through the hands of co-owners Charlotte Guyot and Ardea Macqueron. Their commitment to accessible, well-executed cooking earned the project a spot on the 2026 Le Fooding list. The pair previously worked side by side at Ikonka before designing their own program.
The lunch service stays fixed around eighteen euros and rotates daily. Dishes often pair humble ingredients with precise techniques, such as tender baked ham chiffonnade served alongside anchovy butter and crusty sourdough from Delavoza bakery. Evening menus lean heavily on fresh produce and regional staples, delivering reliable classic bistro fare. You might encounter stewed white beans simmered with smoked sausage in a spiced tomato base, or chanterelles braised in red wine until they soften over creamy polenta.
Orange paint covers the interior walls, setting off aluminum-topped tables and a polished service counter that draws regulars. The layout remains intentionally small, encouraging conversation while waiting for courses to leave the pass. Patrons can secure a seat on the tree-lined terrace during warmer months. The kitchen limits dinner service to Friday and Saturday nights, which keeps the corner bistro focused and ensures every plate meets their standards.
