The story
Jardin des Sens brings together the celebrated Pourcel brothers, Jacques & Laurent, with Olivier Château in a project that aims to solidify Montpellier as a destination for gastronomic excellence. The ambition is clear: to create a “locomotive économique” for the old city, a new place of life and sharing. This is a restaurant within a hotel, not a hotel restaurant – a distinction that speaks to its independence and seriousness of purpose. The dining rooms are classified spaces, preserving original 17th-century frescoes and decor that transport guests to another era, while the cooking remains firmly anchored in the present.
This commitment to high-quality cooking has been recognized with a Michelin star, an award that reflects the kitchen’s refined approach to modern cuisine. The brothers describe themselves as “passeurs de goûts et de saveurs,” creators of taste and flavor, and the menu offerings reflect a cuisine that is both inventive and sincere.
The restaurant occupies three vaulted rooms within the Hôtel Richer de Belleval. The atmosphere is described as “ébouriffant” (stunning) yet reassuring, a place where history and cuisine meet in great harmony. The décor is original and remarkable, creating a world that feels both eternal and contemporary. It is a venue that stages the codes of haute gastronomy and fine wine service, revived wonderfully for today’s guests.
Jardin des Sens offers a multi-tiered menu structure designed for discovery. At lunch on Fridays and Saturdays, guests can choose from a Discovery Menu at 75 euros, a Lunch Menu at 128 euros, a Sens & Saveurs menu at 195 euros, and a Signature Menu at 240 euros. Dinner service runs from Tuesday to Saturday. The evening begins with an Escapade Menu at 130 euros, with a three-glass wine pairing available for an additional 39 euros. The higher-level Sens & Saveurs and Signature menus are also available at dinner, alongside an à la carte selection. The wine list, an “extrait” of which is available as a PDF, promises a great sommelier’s touch. The dress code is casual, with long trousers and closed shoes required for men.
