The story
In Rixheim, just a few minutes from Mulhouse and at the crossroads of France, Germany and Switzerland, Le 7ème Continent has established itself as a destination for those seeking a refined, personal take on modern cuisine. Chef Laurent Haller, who earned a Michelin star for his work here, runs the forty-six-seat dining room with a philosophy built on conviviality and closeness.
The restaurant’s name suggests a world of its own, and the cooking lives up to it. Haller’s approach is grounded in the local terroir of Alsace but open to global influences — precise, creative and never fussy. He works with seasonal products from the region, often reviving forgotten ingredients and transforming them into dishes that are both complex and direct. The menu changes regularly, driven by what nature offers and by the chef’s spontaneous ideas.
Haller’s path to this kitchen included stints at several Michelin-starred houses, among them Bernard Loiseau and Paulus, before he opened his first restaurant, Le Petit Prince, in Habsheim. In 2009 he launched Le 7ème Continent, where he continues to develop his style: a cuisine that is “fine and sober,” as the restaurant puts it, respectful of ingredients and built around subtle spicing. The dining room itself blends modernism with regional character, creating an atmosphere that is welcoming rather than formal.
Beyond the main restaurant, Haller runs a catering service called Isalor and offers takeaway meal kits that bring his star-level cooking home. A weekday lunch menu — three courses at a fixed price — makes the experience accessible, while the evening carte explores deeper, more elaborate combinations. Vegetarian diets and allergies are accommodated on request.
The Michelin star, awarded for high-quality cooking, reflects the consistency and ambition of Haller’s project. At Le 7ème Continent, the table is a place where Alsace meets the wider world, and where the pleasure of sharing a meal remains the clearest priority.
