The story
Since 1850, the Kieny family has welcomed guests at the same address in Riedisheim, just minutes from Mulhouse. What began as the “Café du Vieux Château” evolved through the generations into a refined restaurant where tradition and modernity meet. Today, Mariella Kieny, the seventh generation, presides over the house with a warm, intimate touch. The two dining rooms are elegant and cozy, perfect for business meals or convivial gatherings.
Born in 1991, Chef Naïn Gamboa discovered his vocation while working in restaurants after studying international business. He trained in France with chefs like Julien Allano and in various Michelin-starred houses before joining Maison Kieny in 2019. He returned as sous-chef in 2022 and became head chef in 2023. His cooking is clear, precise, and respectful of the ingredient — a modern cuisine that subtly weaves his Mexican roots into Alsatian terroir. He champions a collaborative kitchen, fights waste, and values seasonal, local products above all.
The restaurant’s commitment to excellence earned it a Michelin star in 1990, and it continues to be Michelin Recommended in 2026. The house motto — “to take the best from the past while adapting to our time” — is lived daily: in the Stammtisch (a regulars’ table), in the catering and reception services, and in every plate that leaves the kitchen. Whether you come for lunch or dinner, the experience here is rooted in a deep respect for produce and people, delivered with the generosity that defines this Alsatian institution.
