The story
Just minutes from Nîmes, in the quiet town of Garons, Chef Michel Kayser and his wife Monique welcome guests into their family home. Here, the atmosphere is one of generosity and simplicity, set within a preserved garden where harmony and quiet rule. This is no formal palace, but a warm, personal space where the couple shares their love for their craft.
Chef Kayser, originally from eastern France, has built a deep connection to the Gard region and the nearby Camargue. He works closely with a network of passionate local producers, farmers, and market gardeners, sourcing ingredients that define his modern cuisine. The region’s rich vegetable crops, exceptional meats like Angus and bull, and the bounty of the nearby Mediterranean—shellfish and fish—all find their way into his dishes.
His cooking is built on classical foundations, rigor, and technique, but it is far from traditional. Kayser composes plates that are "savamment complexes," where depth of flavor challenges memories to create unforgettable moments. He balances audacity with a respect for equilibrium, aiming for dishes that are both just and harmonious. This pursuit of excellence and emotion is what earned the restaurant its two Michelin stars, a recognition of cooking that is both precise and moving.
Dining at Restaurant Alexandre is an experience that extends beyond the plate. The restaurant is a member of both Relais & Châteaux and Les Grandes Tables du Monde, and its wine list is as thoughtful as the food. Whether you visit for lunch or dinner, the goal is the same: to create a suspended moment of pure emotion. The Kaysers, along with their committed team, work every day to turn that goal into a reality.
