The story
On the slopes of Montmartre, at 39 rue Lamarck, a.lea offers a modern, bistronomic take on French cooking. The restaurant’s philosophy is straightforward: a cuisine that evolves with the seasons, built from fresh, raw ingredients. This commitment to quality and seasonality has earned it a place in the Michelin guide.
The menu changes weekly, reflecting what is best at the market. For lunch, served Wednesday through Saturday, a single, affordable menu rotates each week. A recent example featured a velvety carrot soup with chorizo and grilled buckwheat, followed by a snacked sausage with curried lentils and caramelized onions, or a catch-of-the-day with ginger and kumquat. The three-course formula is priced at 27€.
Dinner is a more elaborate affair, with no fixed menu imposed. Guests choose freely from a carte that showcases the chef’s technique. Starters might include a perfect egg with potato espuma and brown butter, or a snacked cuttlefish with celeriac mousseline and chorizo. Main courses range from a braised beef in red wine with potimarron mousseline to scallops with Jerusalem artichoke and coffee. Desserts, like a pear clafoutis with Chantilly cream or a chestnut mousse with bergamot-poached pear, close the meal on a refined note.
The dining room is intimate, seating up to 24 guests, and can be privatized for events. In a neighborhood known for its village feel, a.lea stands out for its direct, ingredient-led cooking and its warm, no-fuss hospitality.
