The story

Becquetance Paris: Le Fooding-Listed Bistro in Ménilmontant

The Architects of Bistronomy

Becquetance offers a distinct take on the Parisian bistro through the collaboration of Anastasia Rohaut and Vincent Bielhy, who combine to deliver a menu driven by absolute creative freedom. Vincent, formerly an architect, applies a disciplined eye to the kitchen operations. Anastasia oversees the dining room rhythm, creating a partnership that treats bistronomy as a canvas rather than a formula. Le Fooding noted this dynamic during its listing, praising the pair for exploring flavors with such unbridled spirit yet maintaining impeccable standards.

Bold Combinations and Honest Ingredients

The menu surprises with constructions built on contrasting textures and reimagined classics. Diners encounter intense smoky herring balanced by a cooling cod roe cream and sprigs of fresh dill. The kitchen substitutes lamb for pork in a rendition of txistorra, scattering the spicy sausage chunks atop a velvety squash velouté dotted with croutons. A vegetable frittata topped with sesame seeds provides a vegetarian option, served alongside a crisp salad of mixed greens.

A Bright Room Behind the Bar

Inside, the decor embraces simplicity through white-toned walls and blonde wood furnishings that amplify the natural light filling this corner bistro. The immaculate bar invites guests to choose wines poured fresh from the bottle, positioned near large windows that reveal the active kitchen. Finished dishes pass directly from the cook to the table, maintaining a rapid and transparent service style. The restaurant shifts between a prix-fixe lunch menu and an à la carte dinner format, ensuring flexible access to the same inventive dishes.

A bingefest called Becquetance! Or in other words, a tiny bistro in Ménilmontant run by Anastasia Rohaut and Vincent Bielhy, furnished with plenty of white tones and blonde wood, where they explore bistronomy with total freedom. Here, things are clear from the start: one pops open bottles of wine behind the immaculate bar, while the other, a former architect, nonchalantly sends out quality dishes from the windowed kitchen. Take the last time we went for lunch: a bracingly bitter combo of intensely smoky herring and a calming cod roe cream, sprinkled with fresh dill; cheeky chunks of txistorra (spicy Basque chorizo-like sausage) remastered with lamb instead of pork, scattered atop a squash velouté studded with croutons – or a vegetable frittata topped with sesame seeds and served with a salad of mixed greens; before dessert, either a chocolate lava cake sprinkled with toasted buckwheat, or a comforting verbena crème brûlée – which could have been cooked just a tad longer. At night, you’ll find the same dishes, served à la carte instead of as a prix-fixe menu. // Théodule Mollard
