The story
The youngest member of a family of acclaimed Parisian addresses, Café Compagnon settles into the life of its 2nd arrondissement neighbourhood with confident ease. The space, designed by Gesa Hansen, mixes red Alicante marble, solid oak, exposed concrete and Pierre Frey fabrics to create a setting meant to last. A bright main room opens onto the street, a boudoir-like corner offers intimacy, a long tapas bar lines the room, and a sun-drenched terrace invites lingering. From 8am to 1am, the rhythms shift with the day.
The ambition, shared with sibling restaurants Le Richer and Le 52, is to open living, sustainable places designed for pleasure. Here, that means anything can happen, with or without a reservation. Drink, eat, snack, share. The menu changes with the seasons and refuses to be pinned to one style. Among the starters, you might find salt cod accras with tartare sauce or a Castelfranco salad with endives and fried buckwheat. Mains range from a vegetarian stuffed cabbage to poached sea bass with glazed salsify and cockles in a vermouth fumet. Roasted pigeon with ginger pears, buckwheat and shiitake is another regular feature.
Ingredients are chosen with care and transformed in-house: chocolate is made on site, the organic coffee is roasted at the team's own facility in Courances, and select wines come from their domaine in the Beaujolais. The kitchen's ethos is simple: the best product, at its best moment, in every form.
This commitment to craftsmanship and quality, paired with a versatile, welcoming space, has earned Café Compagnon a place in the Michelin Guide, where it is recognised as a Recommended restaurant for its modern cuisine. It is a place that balances neighbourhood ease with precise execution, open from morning coffee to late-night drinks.
