The story
In a quiet street near the Madeleine, Chez Monsieur has been a fixture of Parisian dining since long before its current owners, Denis Jamet and Carole Colin, took the reins in 2002. The restaurant describes itself as “a nearly centenary house,” and its atmosphere is that of a classic, welcoming bistro—a place where both the regulars and the first-time visitor feel at ease.
The kitchen focuses on the French classics that never tire. The menu is built around dishes like Burgundy snails in garlic butter, onion soup, veal blanquette, and fresh profiteroles with hot chocolate. The carte changes with the seasons but always draws on fresh produce and traditional preparation. It is a cuisine of pleasure and good humour, as the team puts it.
Wine is a serious affair here. The cellar holds over 200 references, with a particular passion for the great Burgundies and Bordeaux, alongside discoveries from the Loire and Rhône. The owners visit vineyards several times a year, and the restaurant maintains three service cellars to ensure every bottle is served at the right temperature.
The restaurant’s commitment to quality and consistency has earned it a place in the Michelin guide, a recognition that reflects the rigour of the team in both the kitchen and the dining room. It is a bistro that knows exactly what it is: a place for classic French cuisine, well-sourced ingredients, and a properly kept wine list, served with warmth and professionalism.
