The story
On a quiet street in the 7th arrondissement, David Toutain’s eponymous restaurant has earned two Michelin stars for a cuisine that is both precise and personal. The chef’s own words set the tone: “Spring settles at our table. Green asparagus and peas barely appear when we capture their essence for our new creations. It is a deep joy to elevate the work of our market gardeners and accomplices, whose know-how feeds our inspiration.”
The dining experience revolves around tasting menus named after plants — Reine des Prés, Mélisse, Berce, Alliaire — each one a marker of the chef’s vegetable-forward style. At lunch, four options are offered; dinner presents a single, more elaborate menu. Acidity and bitterness are recurring signatures, woven into dishes that change with the seasons.
The kitchen is led by David Toutain alongside a dedicated team of cooks and pastry chefs, including Mamoune Kellal, Francesco Rondi, and Victoire Ollivier. In the dining room, service is overseen by Lucien Dia-Barthe, while sommelier Kilian Gérard and Rémi Duez curate the wine pairings — from a prestige option to a non-alcoholic soft pairing.
The restaurant occupies a townhouse near the Invalides, with a discreet dining room and outdoor seating for warmer months. Menus are served from 258 € at dinner, with lower-priced options at lunch. Reservations are accepted through The Fork, and dietary restrictions are noted upon booking.
David Toutain’s cooking is not about spectacle but about capturing the essence of ingredients at their peak — a philosophy that has earned him two Michelin stars and a loyal following in Paris.
