The story

Furia Paris: Award-Winning Mexican Taquerie in the Eleventh

The chefs behind the counter

Furia brings a focused approach to Mexican cooking to the eleventh arrondissement of Paris. Recognized by Le Fooding for its dedication to the craft, the venue was founded by Julio Guerrero and Oliver Lomeli. Their combined experience at Cicatriz and Chambre Noire translates into plates that favor clean flavors over heavy sauces.

The kitchen and seasonal plates

The rotating menu highlights vegetables alongside traditional proteins, starting with an al pastor version that uses shiitake mushrooms instead of meat. A separate offering layers sautéed squash and peppers with fresh corn and a spicy aioli that cuts through the richness. Diners seeking heartier options can order pulled pork or a tuna preparation served with guacamole and shoestring fries. Every taco follows the same disciplined structure, letting the filling speak for itself while staying true to Mexican traditions.

Space and natural wines

The Saint-Ambroise location operates as a neo-taquería designed for quick service and relaxed conversation. Scratched tomette tiles cover the floor while weathered wood panels line the walls beneath a street-facing window that floods the room with daylight. Natural wines sit ready on the back bar, chosen to complement the bright acidity found in lime and chili preparations. The lively environment encourages guests to practice their Spanish while reviewing the bilingual menu.

Got a furious desire for comida mexicana and natural wines in the Saint-Ambroise neighborhood? In their neo-taquería cave à manger, with its scratched tomette tile floors, weathered wood and a shop front that lets in the sun, Julio Guerrero (ex-manager of Cicatriz in Mexico City) and Oliver Lomeli (co-owner of Chambre Noire) awaken the gods of masa (corn dough) for a classic taco party! On the evolving menu, vegetables flex their muscles with, for example, a surprising Al Pastor with shiitake mushrooms instead of meat, or a heady taco plastered with sautéed vegetables (squash, pepper), corn and spicy aioli. Fish- and meat-loving diners can get stuck into a lip-smacking pulled pork version or a tuna / guacamole / shoestring fries combo that’s atypical as it is addictive. After all that, you’ll be level C2 in Spanish, guaranteed. // Noël Flantier
