The story
IKA brings refined Japanese cooking to a modest storefront on Rue de Chabrol in Paris. Aki left a career as a Tokyo tour guide to launch the project, and her techniques recently earned a spot on the 2026 Le Fooding guide. She opened the venue after realizing she wanted to share the specific flavors she encountered while leading tours through Japan. Former travelers and neighborhood residents now gather here for meals that feel both personal and carefully researched.
The menu centers on a house Japanese curry that shifts between chicken, beef, vegetarian, and occasional octopus preparations. Each version coats short-grain Koshihikari rice in a roux built from caramelized onions, cumin, cardamom, turmeric, and coriander. Tangy pickled carrots and shredded red cabbage cut through the richness of the sauce. Shiso-wrapped eggplant and gyoza stuffed with mimolette and shiitake mushrooms offer lighter alternatives, while matcha cheesecake or strawberry mochi complete the service.
The storefront hangs a small noren curtain that signals a compact interior designed for quick turnover. Aki’s team prepares every order fresh, keeping the pace brisk but attentive. The space functions primarily as a takeaway counter and a handful of tables tucked near the back wall. This streamlined setup lets the focus remain entirely on the Japanese kitchen rather than elaborate decor.
