The story
In the narrow rue des Ciseaux, just steps from the bustling Saint-Germain-des-Prés, La Table de Mee is exactly what it calls itself: a “bistrot coréen” and a “table coréenne.” The double name reflects the place’s dual nature – a casual, welcoming spot for a lunchtime bowl of noodles, and a place to settle in for an evening of Korean cooking with cocktails.
The restaurant’s approach is direct and ingredient-driven. The menu, written in French and Korean, reads like a love letter to the flavours of the peninsula: from the opening KFC (Korean fried chicken) to the Mandu dumplings stuffed with kimchi and pork, and the Daefa Jon – a leek and cheddar galette that nods to classic pajeon. The kitchen works with restraint, letting the quality of each component speak.
The Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded to La Table de Mee recognises its consistent, good-value cooking – and that value is evident in every dish. Among the mains, the Dwäeji Galbi Jjimm – braised spicy pork short ribs – delivers deep, layered heat, while the Sogoghi Jjimm offers a more mellow counterpoint, beef and chestnuts simmered in soy, pear, and apple juice. The Tchulsott Bibimbap arrives in a sizzling metal bowl, its rice, marinated vegetables, and bulgogi to be mixed tableside.
The kitchen also shows a deft hand with seafood: the Godongoh Jorimm (braised mackerel and radish in spicy soy) and the Fish And Rice – a simple, perfectly executed whiting fillet with butter-fried rice – are both satisfying and precise.
Drinks are treated with the same care as the food. The signature Mee 'omee soju cocktail, made with soju and chilled omija (Korean magnolia berry) infusion, is a refreshing, slightly tart companion to the spicy dishes. Desserts continue the Korean theme: a Cake Yuja (homemade yuzu cake), an Affogato Ginseng, and the Bong Wooli Tok – an artisanal Korean mochi filled with glutinous rice, mung beans, and walnut, sourced from a local maker.
La Table de Mee is a small, unpretentious spot where the cooking is both deeply Korean and entirely at home in Paris. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to return – to try the Kimbap you didn’t order, to sit at the bar with a soju cocktail, and to let the kitchen surprise you again.
