The story
Le café des délices in Paris transforms a once dusty neighbourhood bistro into a focused destination for contemporary bistro cuisine. Édouard Lax directs the kitchen here after establishing nearby venues like Le Grand Bain and Le Petit Grain. He stripped back decades of grime to reveal a terra cotta exterior and waxed concrete interior. The result feels immediate rather than rehearsed.
This approach to neighbourhood cooking relies on straightforward techniques and sharp ingredient pairings. Supplì arrive plump and crisp, filled with ‘nduja and aged pecorino straight from southern Italian tradition. A wood-fired flatbread carries shaved lamb kebab alongside fresh herbs pulled directly from the house vegetable patch. Guests dip crispy rosemary focaccia into a smooth baba ganoush before finishing with chocolate mousse finished in caramelized hazelnuts and a drizzle of spicy olive oil.
Recognition from Le Fooding’s 2026 listing highlights how quickly this spot earned local favour. A polished zinc bar anchors the main floor while a spacious terrace opens toward Rue Lemon. From late May onward the entire upper level becomes an all day lounge for neighbours and visitors. Friendly service keeps the pace relaxed across both levels.
