The story

Le Pré Catelan: Three-Star French Gastronomy in Paris's Bois de Boulogne

A Belle Époque Setting in the Bois de Boulogne

Le Pré Catelan occupies a graceful Belle Époque pavilion in the heart of the Bois de Boulogne, just minutes from central Paris. Originally built in 1905 by architect Guillaume Tronchet as a casino-restaurant, the building’s ornate Napoleon III–style interiors are now classified. In 1976, Colette and Gaston Lenôtre took over the concession, restoring the salons and establishing a destination for high gastronomy. Today, the restaurant’s dining room—reimagined by architect Pierre-Yves Rochon—blends contemporary elegance with respect for the heritage, offering views over the surrounding parkland.

Chef Frédéric Anton and His Contemporary French Cuisine

Chef Frédéric Anton has been at the helm since 1997. The website describes his cooking as “a contemporary symphony, both refined and accessible, shining with creativity and precision.” His cuisine is grounded in the essence of the product—subtle, seasonal, and deeply personal. The restaurant offers a tasting menu that evolves with the seasons, reflecting a mastery of contemporary French techniques. Anton’s approach is one of emotion and clarity, without unnecessary embellishment.

A Three-Star Achievement

Le Pré Catelan holds three stars in the Michelin Guide, a distinction it has maintained since 2007. The award is a testament to the consistency and artistry of Anton’s kitchen. The restaurant is also a member of Relais & Châteaux and Les Grandes Tables du Monde. For those seeking a more casual experience, the property also houses La Ferme du Pré, a bistrot by Anton, and several salons for private events. But the gastronomic restaurant remains the heart of the estate—a place where the legacy of Lenôtre and the vision of Frédéric Anton meet in every dish.
